Friends, let me introduce you to an amazing woman who you will be blessed to know. She is a Proverbs 31 woman who loves the Lord, her family and cares for everyone around her. She is also a very talented hair stylist, and she travels for weddings! She doesn’t just do your hair for you on your wedding day, you’ll be gaining a cheerleader & encourager, someone who will selflessly help with whatever is needed and make sure you look just perfect before you walk down the aisle. So without further ado, Mandy Chapman from Pebbles Hair Designs in Dallas, PA is here!
Tell us about Pebbles Hair Designs.
Pebbles Hair Designs is my business that provided on-location hair styling for formal events (weddings, proms, parties ect.) The name Pebbles came as a nickname from my husband. When I would wash my face at night I would put a ponytail on the top of my head and he said that I looked like Pebbles from the Flintstones. And also because I never cared about having a huge diamond in my engagement ring, I told my (now) husband that I was cool with just a beautiful pebble. So the name kind-of stuck.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
There are so many “favorite parts” of my job. I love being able to create beautiful designs and make women feel beautiful. It’s also so fun to meet new people and find out about who they are and what they like. You can always learn neat things about people and fine ways to connect on different levels.
What’s your biggest piece of advice for brides-to-be?
HUM… Most important would be to marry your best friend!!! If you don’t want to hang out with this person for the rest of your life, don’t bother.
But as far as planning a wedding with your best friend:) I would say make sure you get an amazing make-up artist and hair stylist and an amazing photographer. You want to feel like the most beautiful you, you can be on your wedding day. And the day can feel like a whirlwind of nerves and excitement so having a great photographer that you can trust, will allow you to look back on the day and see the many special moments surrounding you.
What’s your favorite part of the wedding day?
When the bride looks in the mirror for the first time after all of the beauty prep. It’s like watching a little girls dream of her wedding day, come to life! I LOVE being a part of that!
What marriage advice do you have?
The goal is not to keep LOVING your spouse. The goal is to keep LIKING your spouse. This may sound strange but I have found that after 11 years of marriage this is SO important!! My belief is that love is a commitment, a choice, like marriage. But to like someone means that you invest in that other person, your goal is to know them and enjoy them for who they are. We can all love people from a distance but not want to spend any time with them (I think most of us can think of family members who fit that bill).
What do you do when you’re not working?
Well, I am a mother to 7 children, so that is what I do mostly every other moment of my life. But I also am a huge advocate for adoption and foster care. My husband and I have adopted 5 children, so this is close to our heart! I am currently working on a project called The Hope and Health Project, to raise money for an organization called The Hope Box. The Hope Box receives children who are abandoned, they also provide education to crisis pregnancy centers and law makers, they are also working to stop sex trafficking. The Hope Box is close to my heart because my daughter-in-law Angela was born to a prostitute in Peru and was thrown in a dumpster to die. She was rescued by missionaries that were in country to work with the prostitutes in the area and to run an orphanage. I am PASSIONATE about helping children, especially children who need forever homes. I also have a new mission that I am working on that involves foster care and the community (but it’s a bit hush-hush at the moment).
