The final countdown to Christmas in Montrose 2017 is on…just 3 days until one of the best weekends of the year begins & I am so excited! I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of the committee the past 3 years and it has been such a joy to be able to work with so many of the local businesses to bring the town to life!
The question we get asked the most is “What is Christmas in Montrose?” It is a 3 day town-wide event that is a series of different activities, hoping and family fun that is aimed to bring the community together & spread Christmas cheer! There is something for all ages, many free events so everyone can take part and some of the most talented local artisan vendors for your shopping pleasure! It started 45 years ago and you can read more about the history of the event on the Montrose Restoration Committee Blog.
It makes me smile to think about those first events, how magical it must have been. Our main goal this year was to bring that magic back to the town and I truly think this year is going to be the best year yet! Our committee has worked hard to bring new events and activities to the schedule this year and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed! I’m excited for the whole weekend but I wanted to highlight some of the events I am looking forward to the most on Saturday!
First, be sure to stop into the local shops throughout the town for Christmas shopping or to treat yourself! These small businesses are the heartbeat of our little town and shopping local is so important!
Free Photos with Santa at Susquehanna County Historical Society : This year, Confetti Photo Booth will be taking the photos with Santa from 12-4pm and each family will receive a free 4×6 print out. The Susquehanna County Dairy Ambassadors will be there serving cookies & milk.
Farmer’s Market & Pop Up Shops : There will be over 50 vendors between the Farmer’s Market on the Green and the Pop Up Shops (in Lee’s Furniture and 232 Church Street)!
Horse Drawn Carriage Rides : Starting in front of the Courthouse, you will be able to take a horse drawn carriage ride to take in the magical weekend from 11-3pm! These are FREE thanks to Mike Myers : Edward Jones Financial Services.
Live Reindeer Display : Santa is bringing 2 of his reindeer to town to meet all of you! This has been my huge project this year & I still can’t believe it’s happening! This will be from 12-4pm at the top of the Green.
Lots of Different Events at the Montrose Theatre : There will be 2 different FREE movies, one on Saturday & one on Sunday sponsored by Williams. You can also enjoy local plays, dance recitals and other local artists perform at the theatre throughout the weekend.
And on Sunday, the Christmas Chorale Concert at First Presbyterian Church at 3pm! You don’t want to miss this, it is amazing!

I believe in shopping local and creating a family friendly community, Montrose will always hold a special place in my heart & it’s such a blessing to be able to be a part of this wonderful weekend!
